Cream Teas
Who could possibly contemplate a visit to Devon without straightaway anticipating the delights of a delectable Devon cream tea?
For those with a serious interest in Cream Teas, the burning debate remains, of course – what goes on your scone first – the cream or the jam?
If you speak to the good folk of Cornwall they will probably tell you that they apply a liberal layer of butter, then jam, then cream. But here in Devon we (mostly) subscribe to the “cream then jam” school of thought.
But truth be told, we don’t think it matters that much. Warm homemade scones, a generous dollop of jam, and a spoonful of local Clotted Cream make the perfect afternoon treat, in whatever order you choose to apply them!
We offer cream teas seven days a week. You may have a short wait whilst the scones are cooked, as we like to ensure that everything is as fresh as possible, but you'll enjoy relaxing in the lounge or sitting outside admiring the view, whilst your cream tea is being prepared. Locally made strawberry jam, fresh Devon clotted cream, a deliciously tasty scone and a nice cup of tea.
